About Frigidaire

Who Are We?

Founded in 1916 as the Guardian Frigerator Company in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Frigidaire has been pioneering appliance innovation for over a century. The company introduced the first self-contained electric refrigerator in 1918, revolutionizing food preservation and marking the beginning of modern refrigeration.

Our History

In 1919, the company adopted the name Frigidaire, a name that quickly became synonymous with household refrigeration. For decades, many Americans referred to any refrigerator as a “Frigidaire,” regardless of the actual brand.

From 1919 to 1979, Frigidaire was a division of General Motors, during which time it expanded its product line to include washers, dryers, ranges, and air conditioners. In 1979, it was acquired by White Consolidated Industries, and later became part of the Electrolux Group in 1986, a global leader in home appliances.

Today, Frigidaire continues to offer innovative, reliable, and stylish appliances that simplify everyday life. From energy-efficient refrigerators to intuitive ranges and laundry solutions, Frigidaire remains committed to delivering quality, performance, and customer satisfaction.
